St Joseph The Hesychast born in 1897 was a monk and elder on Mt Athos. He practiced the form of prayer called hesychasm. Which was the continual prayer of the Jesus Prayer. At the age of 23 he read the lives of the Church Fathers and it forever changed him. He would then move to Mt Athos in 1921. He would go on to meet Elder Ephraim of Arizona who would take St Joseph as his spiritual father.

St Joseph fought against a demon of fornication for 8 years by keeping vigil all night and not sleeping in a bed but in a chair. He spoke very little and spent as much time as possible reciting the Jesus Prayer and keeping vigil. St Joseph spent time at both St Anne's Skete and would move eventually to New Skete.

A few months before his repose he was visited by the Theotokos who told him that she would take him on her feast day. He would go on to repose on August 15th, 1959 which was the Feast of The Dormition of The Most Holy Mother of God.

This 2.5 x 3.25 traveler icon of St Joseph The Hesychast in maple is the perfect size to have on your person or in your car!

Note on wood products - All wood warps, that is something you have to remember with these icons. Warping over time will occur but it wont affect the icon. We use Feed-N-Wax for all of our icons which is our wood sealant and we recommend touching up the icons with this product as needed. If you get water spots from having the icon blessed the easiest way to get rid of them is to apply the Feed-N-Wax product mentioned above to the areas with the water spots and they should go away.

Note that the icon you will receive will vary slightly from picture shown.

All of our icons are made to order, sculpted by Lydia Riley and made in Montana.
